Gerhard Erasmus, the captain of Namibia, voiced his frustration regarding the absence of a light training session prior to their ICC Men's T20 World Cup match against India in New Delhi.

The Namibian team is set to face the reigning champions, India, on Thursday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Erasmus Describes It as a 'Missed Opportunity'

Erasmus referred to the situation as a missed chance for his team, highlighting that Namibia lacks the necessary infrastructure to conduct matches or training sessions under lights at home.

"We don't have any floodlights in Namibia, which poses a significant challenge for us. It's not a trivial matter. Except for players who have participated in leagues like the Nepal Premier League, ILT20, and previous World Cups, most of us are not accustomed to training under lights very often," Erasmus remarked before the match against India.

"Unfortunately, we weren't granted a night training session before this game. I'm unsure why that is. I noticed that India has had two night training sessions, and Canada is currently having one. Interpret that as you wish, but we will approach the game in our typical Namibian spirit, which is to fight hard," he added.

ICC's Response to the Situation

As reported by ESPNcricinfo, an official from the ICC stated that Namibia's request for a night training session was submitted too late.

"All teams received their training schedules well ahead of the tournament on January 27. We accommodated changes in timings wherever feasible. However, Namibia's request arrived only the night before (February 10), which was too late for us to modify the schedule," the spokesperson explained.
