Rajpal Yadav cheque bounce case: As Rajpal Yadav serves his sentence following his surrender at Tihar Jail, the industry continues to rally around him. Amid legal setbacks and financial distress, a resurfaced video of Nawazuddin Siddiqui praising his longtime friend has struck an emotional chord online.

The wave of support began when Sonu Sood publicly urged producers and directors to offer Rajpal a signing amount against future work, calling it a gesture of dignity rather than charity. Soon, several voices from the film fraternity echoed similar sentiments.

When Nawazuddin Siddiqui recalled help from Rajpal Yadav

Now, an old clip from Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s interview with The Lallantop has resurfaced and gone viral. In the video, Nawazuddin speaks warmly about Rajpal’s generosity during his successful years. He said, “When Rajpal was getting good work, he would feed a lot of people. He supported us when we were struggling in the industry. Not once did he back out from helping. He has helped many struggling actors. His house was like a langar; anybody could walk in and eat. He jokes a lot, but in reality, he is a very sensitive human being.”

The two actors share a bond that stretches back over three decades. Their friendship began at the National School of Drama, where they trained together before entering the unpredictable world of Hindi cinema. Nawazuddin has previously described both of them as among the most trained actors in the industry, having spent five years honing their craft.

Rajpal Yadav’s cheque bounce case

Rajpal’s recent legal troubles stem from a cheque bounce case that dates back to 2010. The actor had borrowed Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his film project. When the venture failed at the box office, repayment became difficult. Several cheques later bounced, leading to legal action under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

In April 2018, a Magistrate’s Court convicted Rajpal and his wife, sentencing them to six months’ imprisonment. Although he pursued multiple appeals, the case dragged on for years. During that time, the outstanding amount reportedly rose to nearly Rs 9 crore, despite partial repayments, including Rs 75 lakh paid in 2025.

On February 4, 2026, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma rejected his final plea for a one-week extension, stating that further leniency was not justified. Rajpal surrendered the following day at around 4 PM.
