Hormones work like messengers in our body, which control metabolism, mood, sleep, weight and even fertility. But today’s bad lifestyle and some daily habits are becoming a major reason for hormonal imbalance. When hormones get disturbed, problems like weight gain, fatigue, irritability, menstrual irregularities and skin problems start occurring.

Let us know which habits disturb the hormonal balance and how to avoid them.

1. Staying up late at night and not getting enough sleep

Lack of sleep increases cortisol (stress hormone) and affects melatonin and growth hormone. This increases weight and also affects thyroid and insulin.

rescue: Take at least 7–8 hours of sleep every day and keep a fixed time of sleeping and waking up.

2. Eating too much junk food and sugar

Too much sweet, fried and processed food spoils the insulin hormone, which increases the risk of problems like diabetes and PCOD.

rescue: Eat a diet rich in home-cooked food, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and protein.

3. Excessive stress

Due to continuous stress, cortisol hormone increases, which disturbs the balance of other hormones. This impairs sleep and causes fatigue.

rescue: Reduce stress with yoga, meditation, walks and favorite activities.

4. Lack of physical activity

Thyroid and insulin hormones are affected by sedentary lifestyle. This increases the problem of obesity and hormonal disorders.

rescue: Walk, yoga or exercise for at least 30 minutes every day.

5. Excessive caffeine and alcohol consumption

Drinking excessive tea, coffee and alcohol puts pressure on the liver, which plays an important role in maintaining hormonal balance.

rescue: Limit caffeine and alcohol intake, drink more water.

6. Heating food in plastic containers

Chemicals released from plastic (BPA) disrupt hormones, increasing the risk of hormonal imbalance.

rescue: Use glass or steel utensils.

Easy ways to maintain hormonal balance

  • Eat green vegetables, dry fruits and fruits

  • drink enough water

  • keep weight under control

  • stay away from smoking

  • Get health checkups done from time to time

Our small bad habits gradually spoil the hormonal balance. If these are corrected in time, many serious problems to hormonal imbalance can be avoided. Eating right, adequate sleep and a stress-free life are the keys to keeping hormones balanced.
