A golden chapter was added to Delhi’s public transport on Sunday. In a grand ceremony held at Ramlila Maidan, BJP National President Nitin Naveen and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off 500 new electric buses and included them in the fleet of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). On this historic occasion, a new interstate e-bus service was also launched between the capital Delhi and Panipat. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that with the induction of these 500 new EV buses, Delhi has now become the state with the largest e-bus fleet in the country.
In this special program, Delhi BJP State President Virendra Sachdeva, Delhi Government Cabinet Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, Ravinder Indraj, Kapil Mishra, along with many MLAs and other dignitaries were present. During the program, BJP National President Nitin Naveen, while addressing the gathering, said that the people of Delhi have formed a strong and decisive government by giving an overwhelming majority to the Bharatiya Janata Party. He said that the whole of Delhi deserves congratulations on the occasion of completion of one year of the government.
On the grand occasion of induction of 500 new electric buses into the fleet of DTC, BJP National President Nitin Naveen especially praised Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. He said that the Chief Minister is continuously working with dedication to realize the Delhi of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dreams. Nitin Naveen said that the Chief Minister gifting 500 new e-buses to the people of Delhi on the occasion of completion of one year of the government is a commendable and visionary step.
Historic entry of 500 new electric buses
He said that the previous governments made big promises, put up hoardings and made announcements, but results were not visible on the ground. On the contrary, the present government has proved by working on the ground that it is a government that gives results. Nitin Naveen said that the government’s ‘Zero Tolerance on Corruption’ policy, digital transparency in administration and accountability in decisions have been clearly visible in the last one year. He further said, “Where the intention is right, the policy becomes right and the right policy leads to decisive leadership.” He expressed confidence that the Delhi government under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will continue to work in the same spirit and will take the development schemes further.
Clean and modern transportation with electric buses
The Chief Minister said that this is the first time in the history of Delhi that such a large number of new e-buses have been added to the fleet simultaneously. With the addition of these buses, the total number of electric buses in Delhi has now crossed 4,000, making the capital the city with the largest e-bus fleet in the country. Along with this, the government has also launched three new electric bus services between Delhi-Panipat, which will provide safe, convenient and pollution-free travel to thousands of passengers. Rekha Gupta further said that the government aims to increase the number of e-buses to 7,500 by the end of 2026 and to 14,000 by 2028. He said this step is a milestone towards making public transport modern, green and convenience-rich and will help in making the capital an environment-friendly and tech-driven city.
One Year of Delhi Government: A Journey of Development and Trust
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday, on the occasion of induction of 500 new electric buses of DTC and improvement in public transport, said that February 8, 2025 was a historic day for Delhi. He told that on that day the people of Delhi blessed the Bharatiya Janata Party by giving a clear mandate on 48 out of 70 seats. The Chief Minister said that from that very day a new foundation for the development of Delhi was laid. The public expressed its confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a stable and decisive government was formed with the basic mantra of ‘Development also, heritage also’. Rekha Gupta further said that after 27 years, BJP government was formed in Delhi, and since then new lines of development and trust started being drawn in the capital. He said that all his MLAs, ministers and the entire team gave top priority to the service of the people of Delhi in the last 365 days and worked continuously to solve the long pending problems.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday said that the Delhi government is soon going to bring a comprehensive and effective EV (Electric Vehicle) policy, which will promote clean fuel and green technology in the capital’s transport system. He said that the EV subsidy announced during the previous government had not been paid, whereas the present government ensured payment of Rs 40 crore on this item. The Chief Minister also informed that work is going on on schemes like Pink Card and Mobility Card for women. Presenting the report card of the government’s one year tenure, he said that its success should not be measured only by paper figures, but by the modern buses running on the roads of Delhi and better transport facilities being provided to the general public.
Rekha Gupta said that the previous government had left DTC in a state of great disarray and losses of about Rs 65,000 crore, but the present government is taking concrete steps to bring it out of losses and develop it into a modern, reliable and self-reliant transport system. The Chief Minister said that this reform will not only help in providing better services in future, but will also make DTC a profitable institution. He also said that it will take time to rectify the years of chaos, but with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pledge of “Developed India 2047”, the Delhi government is committed to building a developed and prosperous Delhi.
Better connectivity with interstate e-bus service
Delhi Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said on Sunday that BJP National President Nitin Naveen flagging off 500 new electric buses and dedicating them to the public is a historic step. He said that this initiative will take Delhi’s transport system forward in a modern, clean and pollution-free direction. Dr. Singh said that the new interstate e-bus service between Delhi-Panipat will provide passengers a safe, comfortable and environment-friendly travel experience. The service is approximately 86 km long and will pass through key locations such as Delhi Singhu Border, Haryana Singhu Border, Rai, Bahalgarh, Kumaspur, Murthal, Ganaur, Patti Kalyana, Samalkha, Karhans and Machhroli, thereby strengthening regional connectivity and mobility.
He further said that under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government is committed to building a world-class, sustainable and modern public transport network. On this occasion, it was also informed that after the inclusion of 500 new EV buses in Ramlila Maidan, a total of 4,286 electric buses are now operating in Delhi, due to which the capital has overtaken the earlier top Maharashtra (4,001 e-buses) and has achieved the first position in the field of e-buses in the country.
According to official data, 4,286 electric buses are operating in Delhi, making the capital the state with the largest fleet of e-buses in the country, leaving behind Maharashtra (4,001), Karnataka (1,989), Gujarat (1,041), Telangana (875) and Uttar Pradesh (874). Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that this achievement is the result of the visionary policy of the Delhi Government, under which public transport is being made modern, environment-friendly and public accessible. He said that in the last one year, e-buses have been included in the fleet of Delhi Transport Corporation at a rapid pace, which has not only reduced air pollution but has also provided safe, comfortable and economical transportation facility to the passengers.
The Chief Minister also clarified that the goal of the Delhi government is not limited to numerical growth alone. Effective efforts are being made continuously to build better connectivity, zero-emission transport and future-ready urban mobility systems in the capital. He said that Delhi is now emerging as a national model of green mobility and clean transport.
