Uttar Pradesh Economic Survey 2025-26 clearly indicates that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is moving forward by keeping social security and welfare at the center of its policy. The government has proposed to spend Rs 34,504 crore on this sector in the financial year 2025-26, which is a big increase compared to previous years.
If we look at the figures, only Rs 18,674 crore was spent on social security and welfare in the year 2017-18. This amount increased to Rs 30,530 crore in 2024-25 and is now going to create a new record in 2025-26. This increase presents a picture of implementing the government’s resolve of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas” on the ground.
The state government has strengthened pension schemes for the elderly and disabled. According to the Economic Survey, pension benefits were given to 67.50 lakh elderly people by December 2025 and 22.89 lakh disabled people by January 2026.
In the financial year 2024-25, 60.99 lakh elderly people were benefited by an amount of Rs 7,363.55 crore, which shows an increase of 62.79 percent as compared to the year 2017-18.
Scholarship schemes remain an important priority of the government to connect poor and backward class students with education. In the year 2025-26, till December, 3.42 lakh students of Scheduled Caste, 12.76 lakh of Backward Class and 1.30 lakh of General Category students got the benefit of scholarship.
Whereas in 2024-25, scholarship worth Rs 636.34 crore was given to Scheduled Caste students, Rs 2,454.32 crore to Backward Class and Rs 909.99 crore to general category.
Mukhyamantri Abhyudaya Yojana has become a ray of hope for the youth preparing for competitive examinations. In the year 2024-25, Rs 34.92 crore was spent and 23,017 candidates were given free training. Whereas in 2025-26, till December, 23,801 candidates are preparing under this scheme.
Kanya Sumangala and mass marriage schemes have given social and economic strength to daughters. In the year 2024-25, mass marriages of 95,466 girls were conducted. Till January 2026, 26.81 lakh girls have been benefited from the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana.
Overall, the Economic Survey shows that social welfare schemes in Uttar Pradesh are no longer just announcements, but have become policies with large-scale impact.
