Fraudsters have stolen more than 54 thousand crore rupees in the country through ‘digital arrest’. This is nothing less than robbery. The Supreme Court made such comments in a case on ‘Digital Arrest’ on Monday. At the same time, the Supreme Court has given strict instructions to the Center to prevent this crime.


On that day, the case was going on in the Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Jaimalya Bagchi and Justice NV Anjaria. The amount seized through ‘digital arrest’, the court observed, is more than the budget of several small states in the country. The Supreme Court has also expressed displeasure with the banks in this regard. Court observation, the possibility of negligence or complicity of bank officials in crimes like digital arrest cannot be ruled out.


Fraud in the name of ‘digital arrest’ is increasingly becoming a headache for investigators. Sometimes after calling CBI, sometimes ED or other central agencies, crores of rupees are snatched away by intimidation.


The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has already formulated a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to prevent cyber fraud, the apex court said. Where there is also an order to temporarily block someone’s debit card according to the situation. After that, the Supreme Court also ordered the Center to form an SOP to prevent ‘digital arrest’. Apart from this, the apex court of the country has also ordered a review of the SOPs taken by the RBI and the decisions of the telecom department.


It is to be noted that fraud in the name of ‘digital arrest’ is becoming a headache for the investigators. Sometimes after calling CBI, sometimes ED or other central agencies, crores of rupees are snatched away by intimidation. Awareness campaigns are also being conducted by the central government to avoid cyber fraud. Still, the news of being a victim of ‘digital arrest’ continues to come from different parts of the country.
