The specialty of this khichdi is its green masala, which gives it a completely different taste and aroma from the ordinary yellow khichdi. Let us know the easy way to make it.
Material
Rice – ½ cup
Moong dal (washed) – ½ cup
Fresh green peas – ½ cup
Ghee – 2 tbsp
Cumin – 1 tsp
Asafoetida – a pinch
Turmeric – ½ tsp
Salt – as per taste
Water – 3-4 cups (as per your choice of khichdi)
Green Coriander – 1 cup
Mint – ½ cup
Green chilli – 1-2
Ginger – 1 inch piece
Garlic – 2-3 cloves
Cumin – ½ tsp
Lemon juice – 1 tsp
Method
- First of all, wash the rice and moong dal thoroughly and soak it for 15–20 minutes. Put all the green masala ingredients in a mixer, add a little water and make a fine paste.
- Heat ghee in a pressure cooker or a heavy bottom pan. Add cumin seeds in it, let it crackle, then add asafoetida.
- Now add green peas and fry lightly for 1-2 minutes. Add prepared green masala and cook on medium flame for 2–3 minutes, until the raw smell goes away.
- Now add turmeric and add soaked rice and pulses and mix well. Add salt and water, cover the cooker and cook till 2-3 whistles.
- If you are making it in a pan, cover it on low flame and cook for 20-25 minutes. Let the pressure in the cooker release on its own, then stir the khichdi lightly.
