New Delhi: In a tragic incident in Karnataka, a 22-year-old woman has allegedly died by suicide after suffering horrific torture at the hands of her husband’s family.

The family harassed, abused the woman and forced her into prostitution. The incident took place in Karnataka’s Bidar district, where Anjanabai Shekhar Patil from Bhalki was found dead at her home in Basavakalyan.

Domestic abuse causes mental trauma

In 2022, she got married to Shekhar Patil, hailing from Basavakalyan, and the couple had an 11-month-old infant. She was allegedly found hanging inside the house of Patil’s family in Basavakalyan’s Om Colony.

The police filed a case last week based on her father’s statements, Vijaykumar. The complaint alleges that Anjanabai’s in-laws subjected her to daily mental and physical harassment. Harrowingly, they also allegedly pressured her into prostitution. She was a victim of more domestic abuse, which caused her mental trauma. Vijaykumar alleged his daughter refused illicit relationships and was hence tortured. Local police have now booked Shekhar Patil and two other family members and have taken them into custody.

In another case, a 26-year-old bodybuilder took his own life in Bengaluru after his girlfriend of three years informed him that her marriage had been fixed with another man. The deceased, also a gym trainer by profession, was told by his girlfriend about the engagement. She reportedly even showed him her wedding saree, which made Kiran deeply distressed. He took his life after returning to his home, and his body was found hanging by his family members.
