New Delhi, 8 February. On Sunday (February 8), the second day of his visit to Malaysia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held delegation-level talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. “Our message on terrorism is clear that there are no double standards. There is no compromise on this,” Prime Minister Modi said after talks with Ibrahim.
PM Modi said that our collective opinion is that it is necessary to reform global institutions to face today’s challenges. “We, together with ASEAN, are committed to development, peace and stability in the entire Indo-Pacific region,” the PM said. Prime Minister Modi held wide-ranging talks with his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim focused on strengthening defense and security ties and enhancing economic and innovation partnerships. The MoU was exchanged between India and Malaysia in the presence of PM Narendra Modi and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya during his official visit to Malaysia, reaffirming the strong and enduring ties between the two countries. This was emphasized by External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, who shared details about the welcome and the great significance of the visit in a post on Twitter.
Jaiswal said, “Reaffirming the strong ties that bind India and Malaysia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was formally welcomed at Perdana Putra on his official visit to Malaysia. India and Malaysia share deep civilizational, historical and people-to-people ties. There will be wide-ranging discussions aimed at further strengthening our enduring friendship and strong bilateral ties.”
The ceremonial welcome marked the formal beginning of Prime Minister Modi’s engagements in Malaysia and reflected the importance both sides attach to bilateral relations. India and Malaysia have age-old civilizational ties, shared history, cultural exchanges and strong people-to-people ties, particularly through the Indian diaspora in Malaysia. PM Modi also gave a glimpse of his ceremonial welcome at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya, reflecting the growing warmth in India-Malaysia relations.

India and Malaysia are deepening the partnership based on trust, friendship and shared aspirations,” Prime Minister Modi wrote in a post on Instagram. The message set the tone for his two-day visit to Malaysia, which included high-level meetings, cultural exchanges and contacts with the Indian diaspora. Earlier, PM Modi had stressed the cultural connect between the two countries, especially the role of the Tamil community in Malaysia.
“A group of students from Malaysia Hindu Sangam sang Tirumurai devotional songs. It is commendable how the Tamil community in Malaysia has preserved and popularized their heritage over the years,” he said in a post. Showing cordiality and personal chemistry, Prime Minister Modi was seen traveling in a car with his Malaysian counterpart, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, as they attended a community event together in Kuala Lumpur.
The gesture symbolized the deep understanding between the two leaders and underlined the friendly nature of India-Malaysia relations. PM Modi’s visit is being seen as an important step towards further deepening the enduring friendship between India and Malaysia, which is based on mutual trust, shared values and common aspirations for the future.
