UIDAI Biometric Updates: Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) of students in the country Aadhar Card A historic milestone has been reached towards empowerment. Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) of more than 1 crore children studying in 83,000 schools across the country has been successfully completed. This campaign will now make it easier to avail government schemes and register for competitive exams.

What is Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU)?

At the time of Aadhaar registration of children under five years of age, only photo and document information is taken. At this age, children’s fingerprints and iris are not fully developed. So it is mandatory by law to update biometric information in Aadhaar when children reach 5 years of age and 15 years of age. This process is called MBU.

If not updated, ‘these’ may cause problems

If the parents do not update their child’s biometrics on time, the following important tasks may be hampered. Children may be deprived of school meals, scholarships and other government benefits. Also, Aadhaar verification is mandatory for national level competitive exams like NEET, JEE and CUET. There may be difficulties in getting identification for any official work in future.

A special school-focused campaign by UIDAI

This special campaign was launched in September 2025. The UIDAI integrated the technology with the Education Ministry’s UDISE+ system, giving schools accurate information on which students are pending updates. After this special camps were organized in the schools itself and the Aadhaar of the students was updated. An additional 1.3 crore updates were also carried out at the registration centers during this period.

Service free from October 1

As a relief to students and parents, UIDAI has made MBU completely free for children aged 7 to 15 from October 1. This discount will be valid for one year. UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar has written to the Chief Secretaries of all states urging them to cooperate in this campaign.
