News India Live, Digital Desk: Controversy over the names of films in Bollywood is nothing new, but this time the matter is to the sentiments of a particular community. Brahmin community and many organizations have objected to the title of the film ‘Ghooskhor Pandit’. Now famous singer Anup Jalota has entered this controversy. He has given a suggestion to the makers of the film which is expected to end the controversy. What is the whole controversy? The protest started over adding ‘Pandit’ along with the word ‘Bribery’ in the title of the film. The protesters argue that the word ‘Pandit’ symbolizes a caste and scholarship, and associating it with corruption (bribery) is derogatory. Seeing the matter escalating, Anoop Jalota intervened. Anoop Jalota’s ‘Priest’ formula: While talking to the media, Anoop Jalota said that it is wrong to hurt the sentiments of any community. He suggested: “The word Pandit addresses a particular caste, which may offend people. It would be better if the name of the film be changed to ‘Ghooskhor Pujari’. ‘Pujari’ is a profession, not a caste. A person from any caste can be a priest, so no particular community will have any objection to this name.” Wanted to show it as a satire. However, after Jalota’s suggestion and increasing pressure, now the makers are considering changing the title. Divided opinions on social media. There is a heated debate on this issue on social media: One side says that religious or caste identity should not be made fun of in the name of creative freedom. The other side is advocating seeing it only as a film.
