There is nothing more to say about the inexhaustible attraction of Bengalis towards fish. A Bengali’s henshel is full of everyday fish. Jhal, Jhol, Bharta are Bengalis who are skilled in making various fish dishes. Among them, a traditional dish of hilsa fish laza is a favorite of almost all Bengalis. But if you want to eat fish laza bharta outside of hilsa season or you want to have fish laza bharta for entertaining guests then don’t worry. If you don’t have hilsa, you can easily make laza bharta with catla fish. Which can win the hearts of your guests.


To make this Katla Fish Bharta, you will need 300 grams of Katla fish, oil as required, 1 large chopped onion, 5-7 dry chillies, 2-3 green chillies, salt to taste, 4-5 cloves of whole garlic.

First of all, the cuttlefish should be cleaned and boiled in a little water. Add salt and garlic to the water to remove the fishy smell. After that, fry the rest of the garlic, dry chillies, chopped onion and keep it aside. Then remove the bones from the boiled fish and mix well with the fried onions, dry chillies and green chillies. Then put a little oil in the pan and add the whole mixture to it and saute for a while, when the oil is released, take it down and serve it with hot rice.
