New Delhi: The Indian under-19 team scripted history on Friday bringing home glory with their sixth under-19 World Cup title in style. India defeated England in a thrilling finale by 100 runs in Harare to become the team with maximum World Cup titles in their kitty, followed by Australia which has bagged four titles.

Under the able captaincy of Ayush Mhatre and a swashbuckling batting show by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, India notched up the biggest victory margin in an under-19 World Cup final, with the previous one being Australia’s 79-run win over India in 2024. India gave the English side a gigantic target of 412 to chase as the exuberant batting show was headlined by Sooryavanshi’s 175-run knock off just 80 ball.

The Indian batter pushed the English side against the wall hammering as many as 15 sixes and 15 boundaries, lighting up the cricket ground with his flawless hitting skills and setting the base for a mammoth first innings score. Captain Mhatre also con contributed with a fifty while few other batters chipped in with quick knocks to help the side cross the 400-run total.

In reply, England showcased some courage with Caleb Falconer’s century and Ben Dawkins’ fifty but it went in vain as the Boys in Blue had the last laugh. Sooryavanshi became the first player to win the Player of the Final as well as the Player of the Tournament award in the U19 World Cup.

Meanwhile after the gigantic win at the ICC event, not only did the under-19 team celebrate but the entire country including the families of the cricketers honoured their glorious victory.

Apart from this edition, Indian under-19 team has clinched the title in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018 and 2022.
