FLORENCE, Italy, 5 February 2026—Today, OCLC is introducing the Italian Discovery Catalog, a comprehensive bibliographic catalog of Italian library collections rich with history and culture. This new catalog offers access to Italian-language resources and materials across participating libraries, all within a unified, user-friendly discovery experience.

The Italian Discovery Catalog currently provides more than 16 million records representing 31 million items held by Italian libraries, and it continues to grow. The catalog features filtering options to quickly locate all types of electronic resources, including open access content, as well as print works.

“Launch of the Italian Discovery Catalog demonstrates OCLC’s continued commitment to broadening access to the world’s information at local, national, and international levels,” said Eric van Lubeek, OCLC EMEA Managing Director. “By delivering a native Italian discovery experience that anchors Italian culture in a globally connected discovery environment, we’re enabling these Italian libraries to reach more users while maintaining the local relevance of each library’s collections.”

The Italian Discovery Catalog is based on WorldCat, the most comprehensive global network of data about library collections and services. The records in WorldCat are continually enriched, updated and corrected by OCLC catalogers and data quality specialists, library staff from around the world, publishers, and other partners who contribute to this global resource.

WorldCat gives researchers the ability to view library collections from anywhere in the world, giving them access to a rich assortment of information much deeper than what can be found through a basic internet search. WorldCat plays a vital role in getting library resources in front of people both inside and beyond the library through popular partner websites where they begin their searches.

Other library discovery catalogs—such as WorldCat España, the Arabic Discovery Catalog, Voilà in Canada, Catálogo Colombia Discovery, and the Art Discovery Group Catalog—have been implemented in parts of the world where libraries seek to gather together specific bibliographic records, by geography or subject matter, to improve discoverability and online visibility.
