To reduce the generation gap, CBSE schools are celebrating 'Grandparents Day,' where children participate in activities with their grandparents.
One of the biggest challenges facing society today is the generation gap. Changing lifestyles, rapid technological advancements, and busy schedules are widening the distance between children and the elderly. To bridge this gap, a new initiative has begun in schools. The central government and the education department have taken a significant step towards strengthening the relationship between children and their grandparents.
Following guidelines from the Central Ministry of Education, the Delhi Education Department has initiated the celebration of 'Grandparents Day' in all CBSE schools. On this day, children come to school with their grandparents. Special activities are organized throughout the day on the school premises, in which children and the elderly participate together. The aim is not just a one-day event, but to reduce the emotional distance between generations.
Initiative in India on the lines of the US and Canada
This concept is not new. 'Grandparents Day' or 'Grandfriends Day' has been celebrated in countries like the US and Canada for a long time. Positive results have been observed there. Children's connection with their families has increased, and feelings of loneliness among the elderly have decreased. Now, India is also adopting this approach to strengthen family bonds and pass on values from generation to generation.
Related activities to continue throughout the year
The CBSE believes that a one-day event is not enough. Therefore, the board has indicated that activities related to this concept will be conducted throughout the year. Schools have been instructed to organize programs alongside academics that promote interaction and understanding between different generations. What's special about Grandparents' Day?
Recommendation to invite grandparents on special days
Under the recommendations of the National Council for Senior Citizens and the directives of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, CBSE has prepared these guidelines. Schools have been asked to invite grandparents on occasions like Independence Day, Children's Day, and International Senior Citizens' Day. This will ensure regular interaction between children and the elderly.
Increased respect and understanding in children
The board says that when children spend time with their grandparents, qualities like respect, patience, and moral values develop naturally in them. The experiences of the elderly can guide children in the right direction in life. This also improves children's emotional intelligence.
Recommendation for programs like 'Walkathon'
CBSE has also suggested that schools organize programs like 'Walkathon' where grandparents and grandchildren walk together. Such programs are not only good for health but also provide an opportunity for interaction and fun.
Reducing loneliness among the elderly
Many elderly people today are struggling with loneliness and social isolation. Spending time with children keeps them happy. This initiative by schools will also help connect senior citizens with society. They will feel that their presence is still important.
