According to mythological beliefs and calendar, Mother Sita was born on the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month. In the year 2026, Ashtami Tithi will start on February 9 at 5:01 am, while it will end on February 10 at 7:27 am. Udayatithi has been given special importance in the scriptures. Ashtami Tithi will last throughout the day and night on 9th February, hence celebrating Janaki Jayanti on this day i.e. Monday, 9th February 2026 will be considered religious and auspicious.


Worship method of Janaki Jayanti


On this auspicious day, joint worship of Mother Sita and Lord Shri Ram is done. Devotees should take bath in the morning, wear clean clothes and take a pledge to fast. After this, clean the worship place of the house and spread a red or yellow colored cloth on a platform. Install the statue or picture of Mother Sita and Lord Ram. Offer red chunari to Mother Sita and offer makeup items like bindi, bangles, vermillion etc. Offer flowers, fruits and home-made sattvik dishes. In the end, perform the aarti of Ram-Sita and pray for a happy married life and family peace. Donating wedding items by married women on this day is considered especially auspicious.
