India Post GDS Vacancy 2026: The Indian Postal Department has released the circle-wise details of a total of 28,636 vacancies under the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment 2026. Interested candidates can check the vacancy details for their respective states on the official website indiapost.gov.in/gdsonlineengagement. The department has provided a complete list of state-wise and category-wise posts, allowing candidates to choose the most suitable circle for themselves.



Online applications for this recruitment process started on January 31st. Candidates can register until February 14th, while the last date for submitting the application form is February 16th. A correction window will be available on February 18th and 19th for correcting any errors in the application. Candidates who have passed the 10th grade are eligible to apply for this recruitment.

Several states have a large number of vacancies in this recruitment. Uttar Pradesh has 3,169 posts, Maharashtra has 3,553 posts, West Bengal has 2,983 posts, Madhya Pradesh has 2,102 posts, and Tamil Nadu has 2,009 posts. This includes 1,344 posts in Bihar, 1,191 posts in Odisha, 1,155 posts in Chhattisgarh, 908 posts in Jharkhand, and 634 posts in Rajasthan. A total of 38 posts are available in the Delhi circle. Knowledge of the local language is mandatory for each state.

Category-wise vacancies in some states

In the Uttar Pradesh circle, there are 1,328 posts for UR, 830 for OBC, 588 for SC, 62 for ST, and 291 for EWS. The Bihar circle includes 599 posts for UR, 328 for OBC, 199 for SC, 67 for ST, and 119 for EWS, along with separate seats reserved for the PwD category. Detailed category-wise vacancy details have also been released for other circles, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Delhi.



Age Limit and Eligibility

As per the educational qualification, candidates must have passed the 10th class with Mathematics and English as subjects. Knowledge of the local language of the state for which the application is being submitted is also required. Basic computer knowledge and the ability to ride a bicycle are also mandatory.



The minimum age for India Post GDS recruitment is 18 years, and the maximum age is 40 years. Age relaxation will be given to reserved categories as per rules, including 5 years for the SC category and 3 years for the OBC candidates.



Salary Scale

The department has fixed different salary scales depending on the post. The salary for the Branch Postmaster (BPM) post will range from ₹12,000 to ₹29,380. The monthly salary for Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak positions has been fixed at ₹10,000 to ₹24,470.



Selection Process

There will be no written examination in this recruitment. Candidates will be selected entirely based on a merit list prepared based on the marks obtained in the 10th standard. Higher educational qualifications will not be given any additional weightage. Candidates included in the merit list will be called for document verification by the concerned Divisional Head.



Application Fee

General and OBC category candidates will have to pay an application fee of ₹100, while no fee will be charged from SC, ST, and all categories of female candidates.
