Railway News : Railways has started preparing for a major change for passengers traveling long distance. Often the seat remains empty due to reasons such as not reaching the station on time despite taking the passenger ticket, not starting the journey from the designated station or not boarding the train despite having the ticket.

As a result, there are disputes for seats among waiting passengers. The Ministry of Railways has directed to implement new rules to eliminate this problem.

According to this new rule, it will be mandatory for the passenger to start his journey from the same station from which he has purchased the ticket. If the passenger does not board the train from that station, his seat will be treated as ‘no-show’.

In such a case, the seat will be immediately given to another eligible passenger on the waiting list. Therefore, Railways aims to stop misuse by passengers who do not travel despite having confirmed tickets.

The Ministry of Railways has ordered necessary changes in the software system to implement this new system effectively. Through this system, it will be recorded whether the passenger has boarded the train at the designated boarding station or not. If the passenger remains absent, the corresponding seat will automatically become available to the waiting passenger and he will get immediate confirmation.

Also, passengers who want to start their journey from another station instead of the station from which the ticket was issued, will need to complete the boarding station change process at least 24 hours in advance.

If this information is not updated in the system, if the passenger is absent from the scheduled station, his seat will be considered vacant and will be given to another passenger.

Passengers on the waiting list will benefit the most from this change, and seats in long-distance trains will be used more effectively. After the system is updated, this rule will be implemented in all long distance trains across the country. Therefore, it will be necessary for passengers to plan before traveling by knowing the rules.
