JK Rowling spoke out after claims began circulating online. The rumors suggested she had invited Jeffrey Epstein to a Harry Potter premiere. She called the idea completely false.
Rowling addressed the issue on social media. She said neither she nor her team had ever met Epstein. She also said there was no contact and no invitation of any kind. According to her, the claim was beyond ridiculous.
She explained that the newly released documents were being misunderstood. People were jumping to conclusions without reading what actually happened.
The confusion started after the US Department of Justice released millions of files connected to Epstein. The documents mentioned several powerful names. They also included emails linked to the Broadway opening of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in April 2018.
The files show Epstein never contacted Rowling. Instead, his publicist Peggy Siegal reached out to the production company. She asked for tickets for an unnamed very important friend.
Colin Callender from Playground Entertainment agreed to help. He later said he had no idea who the tickets were for. Epstein’s name was never mentioned. Rowling and her team were not involved at any stage.
Even with the attempt, Epstein did not get inside the event. The documents confirm he was not on the official guest list. He was turned away at the door after receiving incorrect tickets.
The next day, Epstein emailed his publicist. He said he could not get in and brushed it off as no big deal. Siegal was upset and contacted the production company. She demanded an apology. They refused.
When these emails became public, many people assumed Rowling had invited Epstein. That assumption was wrong. The documents show the attempt was indirect and unsuccessful.
Rowling has faced intense public criticism in recent years for un issues. This time, she made her position clear without hesitation. She had nothing to do with Epstein and never welcomed him into her world.
