Ryan Routh has been sentenced to life in prison for attempting to assassinate US President Donald Trump. On Wednesday, the US Department of Justice announced the sentence of this criminal. However, even though the maximum sentence like life imprisonment was announced in the courtroom, there was no shadow of remorse in Ryan’s eyes. After the sentence was pronounced, he was seen turning towards the gallery of the court and winking.

There were two consecutive assassination attempts on Trump before the presidential election in America. The first attack took place in July 2024. Shots were fired at Trump at the packed meeting. The bullet passed through his ear. After this attack, the assailant was shot dead on the spot. A second attack took place at Trump’s golf course in Florida in September of that year. However, the accused was caught with the gun before the attack. The court found him guilty in September. Ryan was finally sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday.

“I tried my best to kill him,” Ryan told the inquest. He even announced a reward of one and a half lakh rupees if anyone can kill Trump.

Note that on the day of the incident, the Secret Service agents in charge of Trump’s security heard gunshots around the golf course. After that, Trump was brought out safely. At that time, a rifle barrel was seen sticking out of a bush and action was taken immediately. After shooting, Ryan, the rifleman, tried to escape from the bush. However, the accused was arrested after chasing his car for about half an hour. AK-47 rifle and two bags were recovered from inside the bush.

The investigation revealed that he had been hiding in the area adjacent to the golf course for several weeks to kill Trump. “I tried my best to kill him,” Ryan said during questioning after his arrest. He even announced a reward of one and a half lakh rupees if anyone can kill Trump. Not only that, in September last year Ryan tried to commit suicide by putting a pen nib in the throat of Azlas. But that attempt failed.
