It can damage any organ like bone, blood, kidney, liver. Most women are also affected by cancer. The name is breast cancer. Women need to be alert. Today we are telling about the same breast cancer. How does it happen, what is the prevention and what are the symptoms?
How does breast cancer occur?
Breast cancer is a condition when due to changes in certain genes, breast cells divide and start growing and spreading uncontrollably. Generally, cancer forms in the milk-producing glands or ducts of the breast. It delivers milk from the glands to the nipple. In some cases cancer cells can reach the lymph nodes under the arms and spread to different parts of the body. This cancer occurs in men, but its probability is less. This is seen more in women.
The most important symptom of breast cancer is feeling a lump in the breast. Usually this lump does not cause pain. Dirty blood-like fluid starts coming out from the nipple. Gradually the size of the breast starts changing.
There is a lump or swelling in the underarm and the nipple starts turning red. Doctors say that these symptoms can be of some other disease besides breast cancer. You should definitely consult a doctor and get yourself checked.
So many chances of recovery at this stage
The possibility of curing any cancer depends on which stage it is in. In the first stage the chances of recovery are 80 to 85 percent, in the second stage the chances of recovery are 60-70 percent, in the third stage 30-40 percent, in the last stage the chances of recovery are negligible.
What is investigation and treatment?
Mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy are done to detect breast cancer. Only these tests confirm whether the lump is cancerous or not. The treatment depends on its stage. If detected early then the treatment is normal.
However, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted drug therapy and hormonal therapy are used in its treatment. In the initial stages, there is no need to remove the entire breast in the operation. Later, even if the entire breast has to be removed, it can be rebuilt through plastic surgery.
