Mumbai, 3 February. A major plane escaped an accident at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Tuesday night. According to the information received, while taxiing at the airfield, the right wing tips of two aircraft – Air India flight AI2732 and a landing aircraft of IndiGo – touched each other. There were passengers on board both the planes at the time of the incident.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a statement that Air India’s AI2732 flight was taxiing (moving slowly on the ground before take-off or after landing) from C1 to M4 when the incoming IndiGo flight was taxiing to connect with B1. During this, the right wing tips of both the planes touched each other.

Both aircraft were operating on the runway at the time of the incident and were immediately returned to their respective enclosures for thorough inspection, the statement said. There is no news of anyone being injured in this incident. Meanwhile, after the incident, DGCA officials reached Mumbai airport to take stock of the situation.

Air India’s statement on the incident

Air India also issued an official statement regarding this incident. On February 3, Air India flight AI-2732 from Mumbai to Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) was delayed after the aircraft taxiing on the runway came into contact with an aircraft of another airline, the statement said.

The statement said that the ends of the wings of both the planes collided with each other. This caused damage to the wing of the Air India aircraft. The aircraft has been grounded for technical inspection. The airline said that after the incident, all the passengers were safely deboarded from the plane. Alternative arrangements were made to send the passengers to their destination.
