Raspberry Pi's single-board computers have become costlier again

Raspberry Pi, the popular maker of single-board computers, has announced another price hike for its products. The decision comes just two months after the last increase.

"The cost of some parts has more than doubled over the last quarter," said Eben Upton, CEO of Raspberry Pi.

He added that this has forced them to raise their own pricing for all Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 models with 2GB or more memory.

Price hikes vary by model and RAM configuration
Price adjustments

In December, Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 models saw a price hike of $5 to $25 depending on RAM size.

The 16GB Compute Module 5 also got a $20 increase.

Now, prices will see an increase of $10 for devices with 2GB memory, $15 for those with 4GB, $30 for models with 8GB RAM, and as much as $60 for configurations with up to 16GB RAM.

Unaffected devices and older products
Exclusions

The latest price hikes don't affect the 1GB model of Raspberry Pi 5 launched two months ago, or the 1GB variant of Raspberry Pi 4.

The all-in-one PC Raspberry Pi 400 is also unaffected by these changes.

Older products like Raspberry Pi 3 and Zero are not included in this price hike as well, since the company has "several years' inventory of the LPDDR2 memory that they use."

Hope for future improvements in market conditions
Market forecast

Looking ahead, Upton expects 2026 to be another tough year for memory pricing. However, he remains optimistic that "the current situation is ultimately a temporary one." He added that they look forward to reversing these price increases once the global memory shortage situation stabilizes.
