
New Delhi, 2 February. US President Donald Trump spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the much-awaited trade deal on Monday night Indian time. Before the call, he posted a photo from the January 19, 2026 edition of India Today magazine, in which he was with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The headline on the magazine was ‘Newsmakers of the Year 2025’, and the subheading was ‘The Mover and the Shaker’.
The magazine’s cover page read, ‘Empowered by his election victory, Modi takes his Reform Express forward at full speed in 2025, while also facing the obstacles created by Donald Trump.’
However, Trump did not give any caption on the post. The conversation between the two leaders was confirmed by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore. He posted on X, ‘President Trump has just spoken to Prime Minister Modi. Stay connected. However, he did not reveal anything about the nature of this phone call.
Trump has Had expressed confidence in a strong trade deal with India in WEF.
Earlier last month, while speaking to the media at the World Economic Forum (WEF), Trump had expressed confidence in a strong trade deal with India and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a ‘wonderful guy’.
Donald Trump had said in response to a question on India-US trade deal, ‘I have great respect for your Prime Minister. He is a wonderful person and my friend. On the much-awaited trade deal, he had said, ‘We are going to have a good deal.’
