Chelseahave been told why it’s unlikely that Cole Palmer would leave the club in favour of a move to Chelsea. The Blues have been told by a former Premier League star that the presence of Bruno Fernandes in the Red Devils squad means a switch to Old Trafford is not likely to happen.

Palmer has been tentatively linked with a move to United during the January transfer window, which coincided with Liam Roseniorbeing appointed as the club’s new manager.

With United being linked with a move for Palmer, it has also seen uncertainty around Bruno Fernandes’ future at Old Trafford, with the Portugal international linked with clubs in the Saudi Pro League last summer.

FormerPremier League star Jermaine Pennant has explained why he thinks Fernandes remaining a United player beyond this summer would mean a move for Palmer is unlikely.

“He's obviously not getting any younger. If the Saudi clubs come back in for a whopping £100 million plus, I think they may potentially think, 'Okay, thank you and bring in Cole [Palmer]'.

“But I don't see why they'd bring in Cole and then have Bruno as well, both kind of the same position. Unless they're looking to drop Bruno a bit deeper.

“But if you've got a player of that calibre saying, ‘I'm unhappy and I want to come to your club or come back home’, the alarm bells are going to start ringing and maybe having questions about it because he's a fantastic player.

“I would be surprised [if Palmer left] because I think Chelsea have kind of built a project, a lot of young players, for the past two seasons, been evolved around Cole Palmer.

“You would say that, obviously not in the league position at the minute, but maybe they're in a better place at present. So yeah, it would be a shock to see him leave to go to Man United.”

Rosenior was asked about Palmer’s future amid the speculation about apparent interest from United, where the Chelsea boss dismissed the rumours.

"It's simple: Cole's an incredible player like [Moises Caicedo] sitting next to me and many players in the group. I'm not surprised at the timing (of the rumours),” Rosenior said last month.

"A new manager comes in and all of a sudden there's people are (looking to) unsettle. It's not true. Cole's here, he's very happy and I can't wait to see him on the pitch.

"There's no reason for an assurance (from Chelsea's directors). It's so unrealistic. It's come from nowhere, there's nothing in it. There's no reason to have the conversation, that's where I'm at.

"Cole is very happy. We've had numerous conversations with him on how we can make this team better, how he can improve and how I can help him - because he loves being here and he wants to be a Chelsea player.

"You can't stop speculation, but some speculation is so far from the truth, there's not point having any discussion about it."
