Sri Lanka Announce Team For T20 World Cup: T20 World Cup will start from 7th February. Now all 20 teams have announced their squads for this World Cup. Sri Lanka has announced the team last for the T20 World Cup. A 15-member team has been announced under the captaincy of Dasun Shanaka. However, injured player Ishan Malinga has also got a place in this team.
Shanaka was named captain in the preliminary squad released in December. The team has strong white-ball experience, including Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera and Charith Asalanka. The team’s all-round depth remains its biggest strength, with Wanindu Hasaranga, Kamindu Mendis and Dunith Vellalaghe making vital contributions with both bat and ball. In the bowling department, mystery spinner Mahesh Theekshana is leading the team along with experienced fast bowlers Dushmantha Chameera and Mathisha Pathirana.
Malinga got a place in the team despite injury
Meanwhile, before the third T20 match against England, Sri Lankan fast bowler Ishan Malinga’s shoulder got dislocated. After which he was dropped from the third T20. There was a possibility that Malinga would not be included in the T20 World Cup team. But despite the injury, the selectors have included Ishaan in the World Cup team. Ishan Malinga has taken 8 wickets in eight T20 matches in his career. During this period his strike rate has been 17.1.
Sri Lanka’s campaign will start from 8th February
The Sri Lankan team will start its campaign against Ireland in Colombo on 8 February. After this, it will play against Oman in Pallekele on 12 February, Australia in Pallekele on 16 February and its last league match against Zimbabwe in Colombo on 19 February.
