When a dog unexpectedly becomes pregnant, it can be quite the puzzle figuring out who the father is.

One pet owner found themselves in this predicament when their pooch fell pregnant, and they traced the likely suspect back to an unneutered male dog living on a friend's farm. However, the dog's owner is now refusing to chip in for the vet bills and other expenses, and internet users are rallying behind his decision.

The chap took to Reddit under the username u/aitapuppy_power to seek advice on whether he was in the wrong for not offering puppy support. His post has garnered nearly 14,000 upvotes and sparked over 1,500 comments. In his post, the man explained that he lives on his family's farm where they've always kept livestock guard dogs to fend off predators.

His post read: "I have two, they are very well trained and socialised, but I don't allow dogs I don't know on the farm unless I'm there the entire time."

He further explained that one of his dogs is an unneutered male due to "reasons relating to the community", while the other is a spayed female.

The plot thickened about four months ago when he went away on a work trip and his girlfriend invited her friend Taylor to stay at the farm.

Before her visit, Taylor enquired if there was space for her dog's crate, but the man insisted she couldn't bring her dog as he wouldn't be around.

However, upon her arrival, Taylor had brought along her dog, who was in heat. As he explained: "She arrives, she has her dog. In heat. My gf told her she could bring her.

"I offered to pay for her dog to go to the local kennel since I'd be gone, my gf and Taylor said I was controlling. I told them I just didn't want to leave room for issues."

He warned Taylor to ensure her dog remained on a lead and was watched closely whenever outside.

This sparked another row between him and his girlfriend, though he had to leave before they could sort things out.

"Taylor left the day I got home. Weeks later her dog had puppies," he explained.

"Gf admitted they only put Taylor's dog on the leash when my cousin was over, and let her run the rest of the time."

Taylor is now demanding he fork out half the vet bills and puppy costs until they find homes for the litter.

He said: "She's railing about me to my gf about not having my dog neutered. I refuse to pay."

He insists his dogs are exactly where they "supposed to be" and it's not his responsibility that Taylor's dog came into the yard and bred—particularly after he'd explicitly told her not to bring the animal over.

Wrapping up his post, he asked: "She and my gf can cover the expenses since they went behind my back. Am I in the wrong here?".

The post has drawn hundreds of supporters who've slammed the friend for bringing her dog to the farm in the first place.

One said: "She brought her non-spayed dog to a house with a non-neutered male dog while her dog was in heat."

Another added: "It takes a special kind of stupid to let a dog in heat run around unsupervised, and you tried to keep it from happening."

Another said: "She should have listened. Also it's a bit rich of her to complain about your dog not being neutered yet her dog wasn't spayed?".

Several commenters believed Taylor "knew exactly what she was doing" and probably fancied her pooch having pups to make a quick buck.

One said: "She's playing games and the dog is the one paying the price. It's gross."

Some even pointed the finger at the man's girlfriend, suggesting she was complicit in the scheme, branding the situation "suspicious" and "fishy".

He hit back: "I do plan on asking my gf when she gets home tomorrow. She's known since I moved here why I don't allow dogs I don't know on the farm when I'm absent.

"I've been asking for an answer for weeks about why she decided to go behind my back this time."

Others urged him to demand "stud fees" from Taylor, with one pointing out: "It's a bit rich of her to complain about your dog not being neutered yet her dog wasn't spayed?".
