taiwan A scene was seen in the capital of Taiwan on Sunday which took people’s breath away. Hundreds of meters above the ground, on the walls of Taipei 101, a huge skyscraper made of steel and glass, a small red figure was slowly moving forward. This was not an ordinary courageous performance, but a dangerous feat of American rock climber Alex Honnold.

Without rope, harness or any kind of safety equipment, Alex Honnold created history by free solo climbing on Taipei 101, one of the tallest buildings in the world. As he moved up, the heartbeats of the people standing on the streets below increased and the city echoed with applause and cheers.

Climbing Taipei 101 without safety equipment

Alex Honnold began his climb from a corner of the 508-metre (1,667 ft) tall Taipei 101 Tower. They started moving upwards, holding on to the narrow L-shaped projections and decorative edges of the building. This climb was completely different from his previous adventures in the forests and mountains, because this time he was in the middle of a crowded metropolis.

People’s applause echoed from the road

As Honnold climbed higher, people standing on the street below kept cheering him enthusiastically. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the city, this scene looked no less than an exciting movie. After this dangerous climb that lasted for about 90 minutes, when he reached the top of the building, the crowd present there jumped with joy.

Waved hand as soon as reached the summit

Alex Honnold, wearing a red short-sleeved shirt, reached the top of Taipei 101, raised his arms and waved to the people standing below. Standing at a height, her calm and confident posture surprised everyone.

What did Alex Honnold say?

According to the Associated Press, Alex Honnold said after the climb, “What a spectacular view, incredible, what a beautiful day it was. It was very windy, so I was wondering if I was going to fall off the tower. I was trying my best to keep my balance, but it really was an amazing view, what a beautiful way to see Taipei.”
