Various organizations and religious leaders of the Muslim community have given mixed reactions to this step of the government.

Key figures and allocations of the budget

This time the government has focused special attention on the educational empowerment of minority students. As per budget documents:-

  • Total allocation: ₹3,400 crore (up from last revised estimate of ₹2,160.45 crore).

Positive response from organizations

Maulana Kaab Rashidi, legal advisor of the Uttar Pradesh unit of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind (AM), described the provision of ₹832 crore for the educational empowerment of students as commendable. He said that the benefits of the increased amount should be passed on to the community through proper planning. At the same time, Maulana Yasoob Abbas, General Secretary of All India Shia Personal Law Board, expressed happiness over the increase in the budget, however, he also raised the demand that the government should create an effective mechanism to ensure that the Shia community gets proper benefits of the budget.

Expecting more on education and employment

On the other hand, Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahali, senior member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, described the budget as low in proportion to the population. He expressed concern that the increase this time is not sufficient in line with the reduction in scholarship items in previous years. He stressed the need for more ambitious plans for quality employment training and higher education for minorities.

Stance of ruling party and ministers

UP Minister of State for Minority Welfare Danish Azad Ansari welcomed the budget and said that it will help in connecting the backward sections of the Muslim society with the mainstream. State president of BJP Minority Morcha, Kumar Basit Ali termed it as the government’s ‘positive thinking’ Told the result. Experts believe that the increase in the budget is welcome, but its actual impact will depend on how transparently the schemes are implemented at the ground level.
