Call the Midwife star Dame Vanessa Redgrave has returned as narrator of the BBC One show for the fifteenth series.

The latest season of the much-loved period drama is currently captivating audiences as the devoted nuns and nurses from Nonnatus Housemake their weekly appearances on our screens.

Now set in 1971, the show premiered in 2012 and drew inspiration from Jennifer Worth's experiences as a midwife in the 1950s and 1960s, as well as from the Sisters of St. John the Divine.

What else has Vanessa Redgrave been in?

Vanessa has been on our screens since 1958, when she debuted as Pamela Benson-Grey in Behind the Mask. During her glittering career, there has hardly been a moment when she has been out of work.

In 1977, the actress won an Oscar for her role in Julia, and her other most famous movies include Camelot (1967), Isadora (1968), Mary, Queen of Scots (1971), Howards End (1992), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), Atonement (2007), and the thriller Mission: Impossible (1996).

Who is Vanessa Redgrave's famous family?

Away from the spotlight, Vanessa was married to Tony Richardson, an English theatre and film director and producer who won an Academy Award for Best Director for his 1963 comedy film Tom Jones.

The couple tied the knot in 1962 and parted ways in 1967, and share two daughters, Natasha and Joely Richardson. Tony passed away in November 1991 at the age of 63. Both of their daughters grew up to be actresses.

Joely has appeared in several films and television series, including The Tudors, 101 Dalmatians, Event Horizon, The Patriot, Return to Me, Anonymous, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Endless Love, and Red Sparrow.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, their eldest daughter, actress Natasha Richardson, also met an untimely death. She tragically lost her life in a skiing accident in 2009 when she was just 45.

Natasha was married to actor Liam Neeson, with whom she had two sons, Micheál and Daniel.

From 1971 to 1986, Vanessa was in a relationship with Timothy Dalton, who starred in two 007 movies, The Living Daylights (1987) and Licence to Kill (1989). The pair met while acting in the biographical classic Mary, Queen of Scots.

After they split, Vanessa reunited with another ex, Italian actor Franco Nero, whom she later married in 2006.

Vanessa and Franco had already had a son together in 1969. Their son Carlo grew up to be a well-known screenwriter and film director. In fact, Vanessa even acted in one of her son’s films, The Fever, in 2004.
