New Delhi: A waiter was arrested for allegedly serving cow meat instead of mutton steak at a pub on Park Street in Kolkata on Saturday, January 31. The incident occurred at a popular pub joint, Oly.

The incident stole the limelight because the person who consumed the cow meat unknowingly is a Bengali actor and social media influencer, Sayak Chakraborty.

Sayak went to the pub with his companions for dinner on Friday night. The matter came to light when another mutton steak was placed on their table, despite only one mutton steak having been ordered.

After that, the complaint questioned the second mutton steak; the pub answered that they ordered two steaks- mutton and beef.

“When we questioned him, he claimed we had ordered two steaks, one mutton and one beef. That is when I protested,” Sayak Chakraborty stated.

He also claimed that he was mentally distraught after realising he had unknowingly consumed beef. Later, Sayak posted a video on social media in which he was confronting a waiter and demanding an explanation about serving the cow meat.

The waiter was seen apologising, and the manager of the pub admitted the mistake and described the incident as a grave mistake.

Sayak has also been claiming that he is a Brahmin in the video clip and also accused the waiter of hurting his religious sentiments. Later, a case was registered against the pub, and the waiter was arrested.

The waiter was identified as Shiekh Nasiruddin and was arrested under section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

After posting the video, several users trolled Sayak, accusing him of trying to stoke communal sentiments and describing him as a BJP agent. Later, Sayak deleted the first video and uploaded the second one.

“I have no intention of triggering Hindu-Muslim riots. I have Muslim friends, I have celebrated Eid at my friend Riyaz’s home, and my content has always promoted communal harmony,” Sayak said.

A senior police officer confirmed that a case has been registered and the investigation is underway.
