A stunning expansive beach frequently missed by holidaymakers has gained significant recognition after a UK travel content creator praised it as 'the most underrated beach in the UK'.

Gwithian Beach, alternatively known as Gwithian Towans, sits near Hayle, just north of St Ives in Cornwall. It represents a magnificent, tranquil haven forming part of three miles of coastline called the Towans, which translates to 'dunes' in Cornish.

Brimming with rock pools, striking cliffs and endless stretches of sand extending towards Hayle, this makes an excellent destination for families keen on discovering marine wildlife and unspoilt natural landscapes. The beach also boasts two cafés, toilet facilities and an extensive car park, making it ideal for swimming, surfing, windsurfing, kite-buggying and rock pooling during low tide.

Thanks to its stretches of golden sand beaches, it also offers some of the most stunning coastal walks alongside crystal-clear waters. Alternatively, there are various circular walks to take advantage of, including on the Towans at Hayle or around the Upton Towans Nature Reserve near Gwithian Beach.

Travel content creator Hannah, who goes under the name hannahsukwanders on social media, branded it 'one of her favourite beaches in Cornwall'. She commented: "It's a beautiful golden sandy beach with stunning cliffs to back it. The beach was dotted with natural sea pools, and it's also a great surfing spot thanks to its Atlantic swells."

The beach also provides lifeguard services throughout the summer months and welcomes dogs year-round, except during July and August, from 10am to 6pm, reports the Mirror.

Hannah continued: "There are miles of incredible sand dunes ad at low tide you can access other beaches too. If you're lucky to might spot grey seals and the beach is a great habitat for seabirds too. Watching Godrevy Lighthouse turn into a silhouette with the sunset behind is definitely a view to behold."

Hundreds of Instagram users swarmed Hannah's comments section following her post, urging her to remain silent about her discovery because it's such an extraordinary location. One follower remarked: "Sshhh don't tell anyone about this beach, it's the best sandy beach in the world IMHO."

Another penned: "So lucky to say this is just down the road from me. Special memories made since I was little, growing up here and now with my own children. It's a special place for sure."

A number of travellers have highly praised the beach. One shared on TripAdvisor following a day out: "Two words: go here. We were four adults, long walk if you want. Super clean beach. What a find - breath-taking, not joking. There is a lovely cabin which serves hot drinks and a surprisingly good choice of light bites."

A second shared: "We've been coming to West Cornwall for decades, but never visited Gwithian Beach before. We used the nearest car park and walked down past the RNLI Hut to the beach. The lighthouse and beach, at low tide on a sunny afternoon, looked magnificent and will remain in my memories."
