New Delhi: Another day, another failure! Gone are the days when the cricketing world talked about Sanju Samson’s articulate batting and his power-hitting skills as the right-hander has miserably failed recently to give any such opportunity to the fans to celebrate. During the fifth and final T20I against New Zealand on Saturday, the Kerala batter’s homecoming T20I proved to be awful as he was just dismissed for just 6 runs off 6 balls.

Samson, after suffering four successive failures earlier in the series, had the perfect opportunity in hand in his home ground to showcase his batting prowess but the 31-year-old failed to show at least some guts of standing at the crease for some duration. A brief stay was what Samson had when his crowd was expecting him to fire, especially with no pressure on his head as the series is already in India’s pocket.

With the T20 World Cup just around the corner, this comes as a very bad news for India and especially Samson, who might end up losing his place in the side if failures continue. Samson had not a couple but as many as five opportunities to prove his worth and might in the series but he looked completely miserable in all the outings.

In the five matches against New Zealand, Sanju Samson has managed to score just 46 runs which states a really poor time the Kerala batter has been experiencing on the field. In the series opener against the Kiwis, he scored 10 off 7, which was followed by 6 off 5, 0 off 1, 24 off 15 and 6 0ff 6. In the fourth T20I, Samson displayed some skills by scoring 24 runs off just 15 balls including some good hits and it seemed like he might get on to score a half-century at least in today’s game but Saturday proved to be even worst.

Meanwhile, in the last 16 innings in T20Is, Samson has scored just 268 with an average of just close to 17 which speaks a lot about his recent struggle with the bat. Having been named in the squad for the T20 World Cup, Samson along with Team India, would be hoping prove useful for the defending champions.
