ICICI Bank has announced a series of important changes to its credit card rules, which will come into effect from February 1, 2026. These updates will impact millions of cardholders who use their cards for movie bookings, daily travel, insurance payments, online gaming, and digital wallet transactions. While some benefits will continue with revised limits, several popular perks are being discontinued, and new charges are being introduced across multiple spending categories.

According to the bank, these changes will vary based on the type and category of credit card, making it essential for customers to review the updated terms carefully.

Free Movie Ticket Benefit to Be Withdrawn

One of the biggest changes is the removal of the complimentary BookMyShow movie ticket benefit on select credit cards. ICICI Bank has confirmed that customers using the following cards will no longer receive free movie tickets:

  • ICICI Bank Instant Platinum Credit Card

  • ICICI Bank Instant Platinum Chip Credit Card

From February 1 onwards, cardholders using these cards will have to pay the full price for movie tickets, as the long-running entertainment benefit will be discontinued.

Revised Reward Point Limits on Transport Spending

ICICI Bank has also introduced monthly caps on reward points earned from transport-related expenses. These include payments for cabs, metro rides, railway tickets, and other travel-related transactions.

Premium Credit Cards

For premium cards such as:

  • Rubyx

  • Sapphiro

  • Emeralde

  • Emeralde Private

  • Lead the New Rubyx and Sapphiro variants

Reward points will be credited only on transport spending up to ₹20,000 per month.

Regular and Mid-Segment Cards

For standard cards including:

  • Platinum and Platinum Chip

  • Coral and Coral variants

  • HPCL Coral and HPCL Platinum

  • Manchester United, Chennai Super Kings, and other co-branded cards

Reward points will be applicable on transport expenses up to ₹10,000 per month. Spending beyond this limit will not earn any reward points.

Insurance Payments: Benefit Continues for Select Users

There is some relief for customers using the ICICI Bank HPCL Super Saver Credit Card. The bank has clarified that reward points on insurance premium payments will continue at the existing rate for spending up to ₹40,000.

This means users of this specific card will not see any reduction in insurance-related benefits.

New Charges on Online Gaming Transactions

ICICI Bank has already implemented new charges on online gaming payments starting January 15, 2026. Cardholders making payments on gaming platforms such as:

  • Dream11

  • MPL

  • Junglee Games

will now be charged a 2% fee on every transaction. The bank has indicated that this charge will also apply to similar gaming platforms in the future.

Digital Wallet Loading to Become Costlier

Adding money to third-party digital wallets using ICICI Bank credit cards will also attract additional charges. From February 1, 2026:

  • A 1% fee will be levied on wallet loads of ₹5,000 or more

  • This applies to wallets such as Paytm, Amazon Pay, MobiKwik, and similar services

This move may impact users who regularly depend on credit cards to fund their digital wallets for daily expenses.

Extra Fee on High Transport Spending

ICICI Bank has also announced an additional charge for customers with high transport-related expenses. If monthly spending under the transport category exceeds ₹50,000, a 1% fee will be charged on the amount above this threshold.

What Cardholders Should Do Now

With multiple benefits being reduced, capped, or discontinued, ICICI Bank credit card users should:

  • Review the updated card-specific terms

  • Reassess spending patterns

  • Avoid categories that now attract higher fees unless necessary

Customers who frequently use credit cards for gaming, wallet loading, or travel may need to plan transactions more carefully to avoid unexpected charges.

Conclusion

The latest ICICI Bank credit card rule changes mark a clear shift towards controlled rewards and higher charges on digital and high-risk transactions. While some benefits such as insurance rewards remain intact for select cards, popular perks like free movie tickets are coming to an end.

As these changes take effect from February 1, 2026, cardholders are advised to stay informed and adapt their usage to minimize costs and maximize remaining benefits.
