Deoghar: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has declared Deoghar as the first hot spot of banking cyber fraud in the country. In the investigation conducted by RBI under Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), Deoghar has been found to be a high risk area in terms of banking transactions in the entire country.

EDD investigation has revealed that the number of cases to cyber fraud is continuously increasing in Deoghar. A large number of suspicious bank accounts have been found here, in which transaction patterns of customers have been found to be unusual. During investigation, transactions of huge amount suddenly came to light in many new accounts, which were found to be mule accounts. It was told that about Rs 30 lakh is being defrauded from different parts of the country every day through various types of cyber frauds from Deoghar. In these cases, 50 to 60 accounts of various banks operating in Deoghar are being frozen every day by the police of different states of the country.

Taking seriously the increasing cases of cyber fraud, RBI has declared Deoghar as a cyber fraud hot spot and has given strict instructions to all the banks to exercise special vigilance. As soon as RBI instructions were received, all the banks of Deoghar have tightened the process of opening new bank accounts. RBI has mandated thorough due diligence before opening a new account. Especially in those areas where the number of accounts to cyber fraud has been found to be high. Complete satisfaction will be required before opening an account for new customers there.

SBI Deoghar’s RM Prashant Kumar Jha said that RBI has declared Deoghar as a hot spot of banking cyber fraud. EDD investigation found unusual transaction patterns of several accounts. For the safety of customers, bank personnel have to be completely satisfied before opening a new account. SBI has stopped its CSPs from opening accounts directly. Now the account will be opened only after the approval of the branch manager.
