Met Office weather forecasts show that parts of the UK could see heavy snow on Saturday. It comes as wintry weather continues to affect Brits across the nation, with the weather agency issuing a number of weather warnings over the past weeks.

According to a Met Office map, areas across England will see heavy snow over the weekend, with the agency stating that the snow is likely to fall onto lower grounds as rain. The harsh conditions kicked in today (Thursday, January 29), with yellow weather warnings issued for rain, and it is expected to continue through to Saturday (January 31) morning. Brits have been warned to stay safe during the brutal weather.

Areas that will be hit by the snow are mainly across northern England and parts of the Midlands, as indicated by the white patches on the map. In some areas, both snow and rainfall will impact the region, which would have rolled over from Friday.

The Met Office stated: "On Friday, a rain warning is in force for Northern Ireland for much of the day. As it moves northeast overnight, this front is likely to bring some short-lived snowfall to high ground in the north of Wales, northern England and Scotland, though this is likely to fall as rain to lower levels."

Though the rest of England will escape the snow, the Met Office has issued a warning of heavy rain for the south east, alerting Brits to possible flooding, with up to 25mm expected.

Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Stephen Kocher explained that the unsettled conditions expected over the weekend are due to a temperature contrast in North America, which is helping to invigorate the jet stream that drives much of the UK weather.

He added: "With the jet stream strengthened, this helps to develop and strengthen low-pressure systems and push them towards our shores, resulting in the weather we've seen over recent days. This is likely to bring further unsettled weather into next week."
