IShowSpeed, the popular American streamer, ended his Ghana tour with a thrilling boxing match at the historic Bukom Boxing Arena before millions of live viewers.
Darren Watkins Jr., who was on his “Speed Does Africa” tour, stepped into the boxing ring for an exhibition match against local professionals, showcasing his athleticism in the heart of Accra’s boxing district.
Despite being visibly exhausted from a day of touring, Speed held his own in the ring. The atmosphere reached a fever pitch when he sparred with local boxing icon Bukom Banku.
The two shared a viral moment of light-hearted sparring and dancing, though Banku later took to social media to apologise for unintentionally missing a handshake, stating:
“I did not know that you greeted me, you came to Ghana and I am a great superstar here. So if you come to Ghana, I have to make you happy.”
Speed, who has frequently mentioned his Ghanaian heritage, told his audience, “I am back home, there ain’t no better feeling,” as he embraced the local culture.
The visit was so impactful that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs approved a Ghanaian passport for him, with Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa confirming the decision after verifying the streamer’s “irrefutable ties to Ghana.”
Speed concluded his stay by reflecting on his journey, noting, “Africa is not what I thought, it opened my eyes.”
