Kalyan RPF Constable Sharad Gharte Cancer Patient Rescue: A major accident was avoided at Kalyan Railway Station when on-duty RPF jawan Sharad Gharte saved the life of a 60-year-old man with his quickness. The cancer-stricken passenger was stuck between the moving Rajdhani Express and the platform, but was pulled out safely in time.
This heart-wrenching incident happened on platform numbers 4 and 5 of Kalyan railway station. 60-year-old Rajendra Shukla, resident of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, was coming to Thane near Mumbai with his family. According to sources, Shukla is suffering from cancer and was going to be admitted to a private hospital for his treatment. His wife and son were also traveling with him.
When the Rajdhani Express stopped at Kalyan station, Shukla’s family got down. But then he realized that some of his valuables were left inside the AC coach. Shukla hurriedly boarded the train again to retrieve the luggage. Meanwhile the train started gaining speed. When he tried to get down from the moving train in panic, he lost his balance and got stuck in the dangerous gap between the coach and the platform. He was trying to save himself by holding the footboard, but the increasing speed of the train became a major threat to his life.
As soon as RPF head constable Sharad Gharte, posted on the platform, saw this scene, he ran towards the moving train without wasting a moment. His presence of mind and agility averted certain death. Gharte immediately caught hold of Shukla and pulled him towards the platform, which saved his life. This entire incident has been captured in the CCTV camera installed at the station, in which the bravery of the soldier can be clearly seen.
After this courageous act, senior RPF officers have praised Sharad Gharte. Inspector in-charge of Kalyan RPF P.R. Meena praised his devotion to duty. At the same time, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner of Mumbai Division Rishi Shukla has announced that Head Constable Gharte will be formally honored for his exemplary service. As a mark of respect, Kalyan RPF Station honored him with a cash prize of Rs 1,001 on Republic Day. This incident once again underlines the important role of alert railway security personnel in ensuring the safety of passengers.
