Kiren Rijiju remarks on the UGC controversy : An all-party meeting was called a day before the Union Budget session starting tomorrow (Tuesday, January 27). The meeting was chaired by Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Union Ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and JP Nadda were also present in the meeting. Speaking to the media after the all-party meeting, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju gave information about the topics raised in the meeting.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “The meeting was chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, JP Nadda, I and Arjun Ram Meghwal, L Murugan were also present in the meeting. We have taken note of the suggestions given by floor leaders of various parties. We have appealed that this is the Budget session, the first Parliament session of the year, which will begin tomorrow with the President’s address to the joint session of Parliament. Economic Survey tabled on January 29 “And the budget will be presented on February 1. There will be a motion of thanks on the President’s address, later the budget will be discussed in both the Houses. We have requested all parties to cooperate in running the session smoothly.”


Rijiju further said, “We have been elected to raise people’s issues, we have the freedom to speak; but it is also our duty to listen.” On the opposition’s charge of not sharing the legislative agenda, he said, “Government business is shared after the President’s speech in the first session of the year.” Regarding the VB-G RAM G law and the demand for discussion on it, he said, “Once the law comes before the country, we have to follow it. We cannot go back to the past by putting reverse gear. This cannot happen.”


On the opposition’s question whether he will raise the issue of new UGC guidelines in the upcoming budget session, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “Why should we talk only on one issue, the government is always ready to discuss many issues. However, this is the budget session, we have to pass the budget, run the country, serve the people. Passing the budget, discussing it is the rule. Modi government has never ignored any rules and regulations. We work as per the Constitution.” Yes, and this country runs only on the Constitution.”
