News India Live, Digital Desk: Nowadays, in the era in which we are living, it is impossible to avoid two things, one is the mobile (screen) stuck in our hand and the other is the pollution spread outside. You may have noticed that by evening the eyes start feeling heavy, they feel gritty (as if dust has gone in) or they become red.

If this is happening to you again and again, then be careful. It is not just fatigue, in medical language it is ‘Dry Eye Syndrome’ It is said. To put it in simple language, the water in the eyes dries up.

Why do eyes become ‘dry’?

There is a very thin layer of tears over our eyes, which keeps the eyes wet and clean. But two big enemies are harming this layer:

  1. screen time: When we continuously stare at the phone or laptop, we forget to blink. Normally we blink several times in a minute, due to which the eyes remain moist. But while watching the screen this rate is halved. outcome? Moisture evaporates into the air.

  2. Pollution and weather: Dust particles and poisonous smoke present in the air damage the surface of the eyes. The dry air of winter also steals moisture from the eyes, which causes itching and burning.

How to recognize that the problem is serious? (symptoms)

  • Feeling as if sand or pebbles have gone into the eyes (Gritty feeling).

  • Constant itching and feeling of rubbing.

  • Blurred vision.

  • Excessive watering of the eyes (yes, when the eyes are too dry, the body produces more water in reaction, but it is not the same water that provides moisture to the eyes).

  • Inability to tolerate bright light.

Easy home remedies for prevention

You don’t need to become a doctor right away, but you can save your eyes by improving some habits:

  • 20-20-20 formula: If you work on a computer, every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away and take a 20-second break. Blink your eyelids repeatedly intentionally.

  • drink water: If there is lack of water in the body, the production of tears will also reduce. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.

  • Be sure to wear glasses: Whenever you leave the house, wear big sunglasses or glasses. It protects your eyes from direct attacks of cold wind and dust.

  • Stay away from heaters: Avoid sitting directly in front of a heater or blower in winter, it dries the air which leads to dry eyes.

Caution

If the burning sensation is severe, do not buy any eye drop from the medical store and apply it. Some drops contain steroids which can harm the eyes in the long run. Always consult an eye specialist if the problem increases.
