Toll Tax rules changed: There is relief news for those traveling on the National Highway. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has made major changes in the rules to toll tax. Under the new rules, now passengers on under-construction national highways will have to pay only 30 percent toll instead of the full toll. That means you will get a huge discount of 70 percent directly. This decision is no less than a relief for lakhs of people traveling on the highway every day.

You will not have to pay full toll during construction

Till now it was often seen that even during road widening or construction, full toll was collected from the people. Despite bad roads, jams, dust and hassle, passengers had to pay the full amount. Keeping this complaint in mind, the government has amended the National Highway Fee Rules 2008. If a two-lane road is being converted into four lanes or more, only 30 percent toll will be charged until the construction is completed.

When will the new rule come into effect

According to the government notification, this new rule has come into effect from the new year itself. The special thing is that this rule will not be limited only to new projects, but will also be applicable to all those existing national highways, where the two-lane road is being converted into four lanes or more. This means that even on the highways where work is currently underway, passengers will get direct benefits.

Discount will also be available on six and eight lane highways

The government has not given relief only for four lanes. If a four-lane highway is being converted into six or eight lanes, then passengers will get exemption in toll tax there also. In such cases, people will have to pay only 75 percent of the fixed toll. That means here also the 25 percent relief will directly impact the pocket.

Government’s big plan and further preparations

According to government data, about 25 to 30 thousand kilometers of two-lane national highways in the country are being converted into four lanes or more. About Rs 10 lakh crore is being invested on these projects. The aim of the government is that a large part of the freight movement should be through national highways, which will save both traffic and time.

Apart from this, a rule is already in force, under which when the entire cost of a toll road is recovered, only 40 percent toll is taken from the passengers. Now after the new changes, people are going to get great relief even during construction.

Overall, the new rules of toll tax are being considered an important step towards making the travel on the highway a little cheaper and more comfortable.
