The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has initiated an investigation against board director Mohammad Mokhleshur Rahman following allegations of match-fixing in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The inquiry is being conducted by BCB’s Integrity Unit, according to a report by Cricbuzz on Friday, January 23.

The investigation stems from a series of phone recordings shared by Riasat Azim on his YouTube channel, featuring conversations between Mokhleshur and Noakhali Express chairman Towhidul Haque Towhid. In the recordings, Towhid allegedly instructed Mokhleshur on manipulating match outcomes, raising questions about the integrity of the BPL fixtures.

A BCB official told Cricbuzz,

"Alex Marshal (BCB integrity unit head) already started his investigation while he also resigned from BCB’s audit committee.”

Mokhleshur responded to the allegations by confirming his resignation from audit responsibilities to ensure an unbiased inquiry, stating,

“For the sake of a proper investigation, I have resigned from the audit committee and all other responsibilities, but I will remain a director. I want a clean investigation into the matter.”

ICC T20 World Cup Venue Dispute

Separately, the BCB has submitted a request to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) regarding the decision to host Bangladesh’s men’s T20 World Cup matches in India. The appeal challenges the ICC’s ruling, though officials acknowledge the DRC’s jurisdiction may not cover the matter.

A BCB source told PTI,

“Yes, BCB has approached the DRC of ICC as it wants to exhaust all its options. If DRC rules against BCB, then the only body that can be approached is Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) in Switzerland.”

The dispute follows statements from Bangladesh’s interim government and sports ministry advisor Asif Nazrul, citing “security reasons” after senior pacer Mustafizur Rahaman was removed from the Kolkata Knight Riders squad under BCCI directives.

BCB Considers Next Steps

While the ICC has kept Scotland on stand-by for the T20 World Cup matches, the BCB is seeking all avenues to influence the venue decision. The board is under pressure to manage both integrity concerns within its own ranks and diplomatic challenges with the ICC regarding tournament arrangements. No further timelines for either investigation or venue resolution have been disclosed.
