New Delhi: The Manchester City players will refund the costs of tickets for 374 fans who travelled to Norway to witness their club’s shocking 3-1 Champions League defeat against Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday.

The Premier League side suffered the upset as Bodo/Glimt secured a first Champions League win as Kasper Hogh netted a brace, and Jens Petter Hauge also scored. The visitors managed to score a consolation goal through Rayan Cherki, but Rodri’s poor performance in the second-half of the match sealed the victory for the home side.

‘Our supporters mean everything to us’

After the disappointing performance, senior Manchester City players Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Rodri and Erling Haaland released a statement acknowledging the sacrifice of fans who made the long journey to Norway.

“Our supporters mean everything to us, and it was a lot of travelling for the fans who supported us in the freezing cold throughout a difficult evening for us on the pitch. Covering the cost of these tickets for the fans who travelled to Bodo is the least we can do,” they said on Wednesday.

The players will refund the 374 fans a total of 9,357 pounds ($12,568) after each of them paid about 25 pounds per ticket.

“The City support has an incredible connection with the players on a matchday, and this gesture is yet another reminder of that relationship – it means a lot to us,” said Kevin Parker, speaking on behalf of City’s Official Supporters Club.

He further added that the fans know that the players are disappointed with the defeat against Bodo, but as the club will be play next game at home on Saturday, there’s a chance to get back to winning ways and fans will be in full voice, backing the team as they always do.

Pep Guardiola’s side, who suffered a 2-0 defeat in the Premier League against Manchester United on Saturday, will host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. Manchester City is placed in the second position in the Premier League table with 43 points from 22 matches, seven points behind the toppers Arsenal.
