PTC Web Desk: A delegation of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Tuesday met the Delhi Police Commissioner, urging the registration of a criminal case against former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi Marlena over alleged derogatory remarks against Sikh Gurus.
The delegation was led by SGPC senior vice president Raghujit Singh Virk and included junior vice president Baldev Singh Kalyan, executive member Gurpreet Singh Jhabbar, Haryana Sikh Mission in-charge Sukhwinder Singh, and Delhi Sikh Mission in-charge Manveet Singh.
In a memorandum submitted to the Police Commissioner, the SGPC alleged that Atishi, who is currently the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, used objectionable language against Sikh Gurus during Assembly proceedings on January 6. The organisation claimed that the remarks had deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community and were officially recorded in the Vidhan Sabha proceedings.
The SGPC emphasised that the teachings of Sikh Gurus have always stood for equality, brotherhood, and harmony, transcending caste, creed, and religion. It said such values have guided humanity for centuries and must be respected, especially by elected representatives.
The memorandum further noted that the alleged remarks came at a sensitive time when India and the global Sikh community are observing the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. It described the incident as “deeply unfortunate” and unacceptable.
Demanding strict action, the SGPC urged the police to register an FIR against Atishi for allegedly hurting religious sentiments, warning that failure to act could set a dangerous precedent. The delegation said firm legal steps were necessary to ensure that no political leader repeats such conduct in the future.
