Davos/Ranchi: During the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Government of Jharkhand in collaboration with the Women Empowerment Vertical of BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BRICS CCI) organized a high-level panel discussion at the Jharkhand Pavilion. The session themed “Women Entrepreneurship: Driving Growth and Building a Sustainable Economy” highlighted women’s economic participation as essential for inclusive growth and a sustainable future.

Jharkhand does not want to remain only an exporter of minerals and natural resources, Hemant Soren said in the round table meeting of CII.

development based on local values

Addressing the meeting, Kalpana Murmu Soren said that the development model of Jharkhand is based on the tribal and indigenous ethos of the state. He stressed that our relationship with water, forests and land here is not one of mere exploitation, but of conservation and responsibility.

Recognizing invisible labour: Soren underlined that tribal and rural women have historically been the breadwinners of families and local economies. Their ‘invisible’ care and community labor must be recognized as the foundation of society and the economy.

equality and dignity

Kalpana Murmu Soren said Jharkhand’s approach is not limited to just welfare schemes, but focuses on restoring dignity, agency and opportunities to women. State policies are specifically designed to boost the self-confidence of women (housewives and informal sector workers) who often remain hidden from the mainstream. Strong roots, strong future: Using the metaphor of ‘watering the roots’, she said that when women are supported by care, resources and trust, development is more profound, stable and equitable.

Role of Self Help Groups (SHG)

Kalpana Soren highlighted the success of women self-help groups run through Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS). She explained how these groups are creating leadership and self-reliance among women through local production, food processing and enterprises.

Told the vision of the Chief Minister

Kalpana Soren said that the governance structure of Jharkhand under the leadership of Honorable Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren gives priority to ‘people’ over resources and ‘quality of life’ over narrow economic production. He expressed confidence that when women are physically, socially and economically strong, they will become the backbone of sustainable development of not only Jharkhand but the entire country. Lastly he invited global partners to engage with Jharkhand and experience first-hand this women-led community development model.
