Have you ever wondered if the letters A, B, C, D, and the numbers written on your LPG gas cylinder indicate an "expiry date"? Let's find out the truth today. These letters actually indicate the date for the cylinder's safety re-testing, not its expiry date. Every LPG cylinder is retested after a fixed period for safety reasons to ensure it is completely safe for use.
Meaning of A, B, C, D
The code written on the LPG cylinder consists of two parts, such as B25 or C19. The first part is an alphabet (A, B, C, or D), which represents the quarter of the year, and the second part, the number, represents the year. This code indicates "in which quarter of which year the cylinder is due for re-testing."
A: January – March (First Quarter)
B: April – June (Second Quarter)
C: July – September (Third Quarter)
D: October – December (Fourth Quarter)
For example, C26 means the cylinder is due for testing between July and September 2026. B24 means the cylinder was due for testing between April and June 2024. Similarly, if your cylinder has B34 written on it, it means it is scheduled for re-testing between April and June 2034.
Whenever you receive a new cylinder, be sure to check this code. If the cylinder has passed its re-testing date, immediately inform your gas agency.
Avoid buying cylinders on the black market.
If you buy or refill cylinders on the black market, be careful. Such cylinders are often not subjected to safety checks, which increases the risk of serious accidents. Therefore, always get your cylinders from an authorized agency, check the code, and stay safe.
