Jakarta . A passenger plane lost contact in Indonesia’s South Sulawesi province on Saturday, causing a stir. According to local media, the ATR-400 plane, flying from Yogyakarta to Makassar, lost contact over Maros Regency. The plane, operated by Indonesia Air Transport, was scheduled to land at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar. According to reports, contact with the plane was lost at around 1:17 p.m. local time. Indonesia’s search and rescue agency (Basarnas) said that teams were dispatched to the suspected location based on coordinates received from AirNav Indonesia. “Following the coordinates received from AirNav, we have proceeded to the Liang-Liang area of Maros Regency,” said Andi Sultan, head of operations at the Basarnas Makassar office. According to preliminary information, the plane was flying from Yogyakarta and heading towards Makassar when it lost contact. Three joint search and rescue teams, comprising about 25 personnel, have been deployed in the area.

Meanwhile, Maros Police Chief Douglas Mahendrajaya confirmed the loss of contact, saying the information was accurate, but the administration was still formally verifying all the facts. It’s worth noting that in September 2025, a plane crashed in Indonesia’s Central Papua province, killing four people. The wreckage of that plane was found in a deep ravine.
