New cancellation and refund rules for Vande Bharat Sleeper
Vande Bharat Sleeper: After the immense success of Vande Bharat Express, now the country has got the gift of the first 'Vande Bharat Sleeper' train. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently flagged off this first sleeper train running between Howrah and Kamakhya (Guwahati). This train is ready to compete with airplanes in terms of facilities and speed, but passengers planning to travel in it will now have to be more cautious about their pockets and planning. The new rules for refund and cancellation issued by Railways for this premium train are quite strict. If you show even a little haste in booking tickets or change your plans later, you may have to suffer huge financial losses.
According to the new notification issued by the Railway Board, these rules have been made very strict. The biggest thing from the passenger's point of view is that if you do not cancel the ticket till 8 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, then you will not get a refund of even a single rupee. That means your entire rent will be lost.
If you have a confirmed ticket and you cancel it more than 72 hours before the train departs, 25% of the fare will be deducted and the remaining money will be refunded. At the same time, if you cancel the ticket between 72 hours to 8 hours, then Railways will directly deduct 50% of the fare. This means that you will get back only half the amount as refund.
In normal trains, when the ticket was not confirmed, through RAC, at least boarding the train and getting half the seat was guaranteed. But Railways has completely abolished this system in Vande Bharat Sleeper. Apart from this, Railways has also made it clear that every type of quota will not be applicable in this train. As per the current instructions, only quota for women, disabled people, senior citizens and duty passes will be valid. Apart from this, any other type of VIP or general quota will not be applicable in this. Also, the minimum fare distance for this premium service has been fixed at 400 kilometers, that is, if you travel for a short distance then you will have to pay the charge for 400 kilometers only.
This train, which started on the Howrah-Guwahati route, is fully air-conditioned and has been designed to make overnight journeys comfortable. This train will reduce the travel time on this route by about two and a half hours. Railways' effort is to provide an airline-like experience to the passengers at affordable fares. Just as the rules for ticket cancellation in airlines are strict and refunds are less, the rules for Vande Bharat Sleeper have also been made on the same lines.
