New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian women’s cricket team for the Australia tour starting in February. During this tour, the Indian team will play ODI and T20 International series with Australia. Harmanpreet Kaur will captain the women’s team, which recently became world champion. The main goal of the team is to achieve its first series win against Australia in white-ball cricket.
Some important changes have been seen in the team for this tour. Three new players have been included in last year’s World Cup winning team, which include Vaishnavi Sharma, G Kamalini and Kashvi Gautam. These new players are expected to bring energy and strength to the team. This time Uma Chhetri, Yastika Bhatia and Pratika Rawal have not got a place in the team.
Two changes have been made in the T20 International team compared to the previous Sri Lanka tour. Shreyanka Patil has been included in place of Harleen Deol, who is returning after injury. Apart from this, Bharti Fulmali has also got a place in the T20 team. Fulmali last played T20 for India in 2019, and is now making a comeback.
Kashvi Gautam’s return to the ODI team holds special significance, while Harleen Deol has been included in the ODI team but has been kept out of T20.
The three-match T20 series between India and Australia will begin on February 15 in Sydney. After this, a series of three ODI matches will be played from 24th February. There will be a total of six matches in both the series. This tour will be important for the Indian women’s team, because winning in Australia has always been challenging. It remains to be seen whether these young and experienced players together can create a new history or not.
