Flight attendants have a very important job. They are responsible for the safety of all passengers, as well as keeping them comfortable and happy. It's not an easy job, and requires a lot of training and preparation before you can take it on.

They also have a lot of insider tips about the behind the scenes of flying - and one of them has shared theirsecret habits anonymously. This flight attendant spoke to eShores about the little white lies they tell passengers - and what happens to the last sips of wine when the plane lands.

They said there is a switch they make every time to try and help passengers. "When a business class passenger asks for a coffee on a night flight, I'll make a decaf coffee just so that they can fall asleep".

That's not the only white lie that passengers will be told. Plane cabins can be notoriously chilly, but if you're asking the attendants to warm it up a bit, you may be deceived.

They said: "When passengers ask to have the temperature of the cabin turned up, we lie and say yes we will turn it up, but really we don't because we get warm walking around."

If you think you might get cold on your next flight, it's always a good idea to bring a scarf or a blanket to wrap around yourself so you can stay warm - no matter what the air conditioning is doing.

Another thing the flight attendant warned people should be aware of is the water quality on board a plane. With salty snacks often being served, you might get thirsty, but the water on board isn't necessarily the greatest.

They said: "The water tanks don't get cleaned and are probably full of limescale, but we still drink it and use it for tea and coffee."

It might be a good idea to bring your own if you're not sure about the taste of plane water or switch to soft drinks or alcohol. However, if you do decide to have a little drink, make sure you finish it.

Any unused alcohol at the end of a flight goes straight down the drain. They said: "We pour all unused wine and champagne down the drain before landing, even if it's 3/4 full".

If the wastage bothers you, you can always tip your unfinished drink into your reusable water bottle for a later date.
